Psychology Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program in Clinical Health Psychology

The Psychology Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program in Clinical Health Psychology at Indiana University School of Medicine is a one-year program that trains clinical health psychologists with a specialty in serving a diverse and complex population of medically ill patients treated at the Advanced Heart and Lung Care Clinic at Indiana University Methodist Hospital.

The program emphasizes training in cardiac-pulmonary behavioral medicine and transplant psychology. Pre-transplant evaluations, individual psychotherapy, consultation-liaison services and group therapy interventions are part of the clinical protocol. As part of the IU Health transplant program, fellows may have the opportunity to do a specialty rotation in abdominal/ solid organ transplant at IU Health University Hospital. Also, fellows can train in both outpatient and medical inpatient settings conducting both evaluation and intervention services.

  • What can I expect?
    Fellows spend 20-30 hours with clients per week. Up to eight hours per week are dedicated to administration and research endeavors. Fellows can also expect weekly supervisory sessions with a PhD, HSPP psychologist.
  • What is required to apply for this fellowship?

    Applicants must have completed an APA-accredited PhD or PsyD program in clinical or school psychology, as well as completed an APA-accredited predoctoral internship program. Professionals from all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

  • When do you conduct interviews?
    All interviews for the 2021-2022 academic year will be held virtually due to COVID-19. Candidates will be invited for virtual interviews in January and February. Interview invitations will be conducted until positions are filled.
  • What is the salary?
    The postdoctoral fellowship salary is $52,704, or what is consistent with 2020 NIH stipend.

Research

In addition to clinical experiences, fellows will also be involved in additional research experiences, as well as clinical supervision of pre-doctoral psychology interns or psychology practicum students. Opportunities for fellows to teach or supervise medical students may be part of the training experience. Fellows will spend 20-30 hours with clients per week and up to eight hours per week will be dedicated to administration and research endeavors.

Education

Fellows will have the opportunity to attend the Department of Psychiatry’s Grand Rounds, including didactics and other various training events. Through this beneficial program, fellows will be able to successfully complete the Indiana jurisprudence exam and the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP), as well as receive endorsement for compilation hours for Indiana licensure and HSPP.
