Early Decision Program

Through the Early Decision Program, students have an opportunity to secure acceptance to Indiana University School of Medicine by October 1. Through early decision, IU School of Medicine seeks to enroll a cadre of talented future physicians across the statewide system of nine campuses. Applicants who demonstrate excellent academic performance, emulate humanitarianism, possess strong interpersonal skills, have an interest in completing scholarly projects and intend to become superb physicians are especially encouraged to apply.

Application Guidelines

  • Must be an Indiana resident.
  • Although the AMCAS Early Decision application deadline is August 1, IU School of Medicine strongly recommends application submission early in June so that applications may be complete by July 1.
  • Minimum academic qualifications include a GPA of 3.6 (science and overall) and a total MCAT score of 508 with no individual score below 125.
  • Campus availability:
    • Applicants with a minimum GPA of 3.6 (science and overall) and a total MCAT score of 508, with no individual score below 125, are considered for acceptance with campus placement at one of IU School of Medicine’s statewide regional campuses including Bloomington, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Gary, Muncie, South Bend, Terre Haute, and West Lafayette. The Indianapolis campus is not available.
    • Applicants with a minimum GPA of 3.8 GPA (science and overall) and a total MCAT score of 512, with no individual score below 127, are considered for acceptance with campus placement at any one of IU School of Medicine’s statewide campuses including Indianapolis and Bloomington, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Gary, Muncie, South Bend, Terre Haute, and West Lafayette.
  • Campus placement is based on a 4-year attendance commitment at the selected campus. Applicants will be screened for medical school eligibility and then invited to complete a supplemental application to select a preferred campus location. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply to the Scholarly Concentration that is available at the campus selected.
  • Early Decision program notifications occur by October 1. Applicants not accepted during the Early Decision Program process are placed in the regular applicant pool and may apply to other medical schools after October 1.

Scholarly Concentrations Program

A Scholarly Concentration is an optional experience that complements the core medical school curriculum and offers medical students a novel educational experience. These communities of learners share interest in the Scholarly Concentration focus, such as urban medicine and health care disparities, and will learn and complete scholarly projects together. Applicants are encouraged to explore Scholarly Concentration topics as they select a preferred campus.
